Anorexia questions answered

A fellow mum of an anorexia sufferer has put together a 19 minute movie which covers most of the questions asked by parents worried that their teenage daughter (or son) might be suffering from anorexia nervosa or an eating disorder.

If you look beyond the 'robotic' voices (and the fact it doesn't mention that boys get anorexia too!), the content is EXCELLENT and it includes information on the best books available plus links to the best, most up-to-date and helpful websites. See it at http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/8245295/

In my own experience as a parent of an anorexia sufferer, our treatment with CAMHS (at our local NHS trust) is slightly different in that it adheres to the NICE guidelines which recommend no more than 0.5kg per week weight gain for anorexia outpatients (1kg per week for anorexia inpatients).

The tell-tale signs of anorexia

Funny how the description of the descent into anorexia could be a carbon copy of our own experience. What a great pity our GP didn't pick up on it sooner - and that we had to wait several months on the CAMHS waiting list before our treatment started.

That was a terrible time...
